While it's not every day that a songwriter makes it from the shadows of open mic nights to the high wattage, real deal scene, Joe Nolan's old soul lyrics and striking vocals suggest that the odds of breaking through are in his favour. Joe Nolan's distinctive and intimate vocals stack the deck. From theramin tremors to raw howls, his range of expression reaches extremes. He delivers bandaged fragility and raw rage with equal impact. The songs are fervent, pressing and intense, attuned at once to the world of youthful melodramas in which Joe, an artist in his early 20s lives, and an older, deeper level of human experience. Insight into the latter has nothing to do with age.

Hailing from sunny Edmonton AB, The Velveteins are a rock n' roll band consisting of primary songwriters Spencer Morphy (vocals, guitar) and Addison Hiller (percussion). Their latest work 'A Hot Second With The Velveteins' was produced by Lincoln Parish (Cage the Elephant) and has been described as "a collision of the Kinks and the Libertines, rollicking garage, moody surf [...and] pop classicism with a rough edge." (EXCLAIM!). Their unique brand of heavy guitar pop has translated into raucous and energetic live shows opening for large acts such as USS, Milo Greene, July Talk, and appearing across Canada.

QUEEN CITY STOOP KIDS
The Queen City Stoop Kids - a gang of prairie bumpkins set to melt some faces off with doped out hip hop and ratchet beats. QCSK embrace one mentality: Friends Rule.
Cocky on the mic, humble and ready to work, The Stoop Kids are on their grind and in a short amount of time have amassed a dynamic crew of the best local talent to be found in the #YQR.
Their music takes life in the prairies and shoves it back up its own ass. Together with Delusional Kids, Deadlighters Beat Squad and the rest of their 306 family, QCSK are bringing the most current hip hop sound to the Great Plains and beyond.

Hailing from The Great White North, Surf Dads is Canada’s latest up and coming independent act. Originally separated by 2800 kilometres and a country apart, it was through iPhone demos that Surf Dads was birthed. Releasing three EP’s over the span of three months, Surf Dads has proved to be a workhorse band. Touring relentless, including a stint with midfi indie darlings Library Voices, their first year saw them play nearly 50 shows in 6 short months. They honed their skills on the road and have cultivated a live show that will have you dancing and leave you wanting more. With their fulllength record debut set to release in May 2016, you do not want to miss Surf Dads! Recommended if you enjoy Wavves, Bully, Cloud Nothings.

Dissolve in a dreamscape of Winnipeg’s Living Hour’s summer-fueled haze. This five-piece places a halo around your head and pushes you into the wild open imagination of real live bliss. Inspired by never- ending skies, psychedelic guitar waves and old school love songs, these songs will wash away your substance and turn you into the ethereal creature that you’ve always dreamed you were.

Yes We Mystic (MB)
Approaching genre as a tool rather than a barrier, Winnipeg’s Yes We Mystic takes instruments, ideas, and sounds from wherever they can to craft something that is all at once exhilarating, heartrending, pummeling, and grand. Hurling rock together with folk, hip-hop, and R&B, strings and mandolins together with synthesizers, pedals, samples, and vocal effects, they come up with songs that can mellow and groove but climb in an instant to towering, frenzied heights. Throwing opposites together has been a practice that they keep coming back to. The result is both unconventional and weirdly relatable.

WE ARE THE CITY
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, We Are The City has steadily gained the reputation of being one of Canada’s consistently exciting, yet markedly unpredictable, cult-bands. Their third full-length release, Above Club, was released in Europe by Sinnbus, in America by Tooth & Nail Records, and in Canada by Boompa Records. First it seems to be noisy, loud and intense but inside it shines of beauty that is above anything else. Recorded above a club, mixed by Ryan Dahl (Limblifter, Mounties) and Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat, Mounties) it creates a new genre that is a bit above everything.
Saturday May 21 @ 16:00pm - The Green Door Store
Anyone who caught on to the slow-burn success of 2012’s desolately hook-laden Ancient Mars could sense that something in The Zolas was threatening to bubble over, and after a year of recording, 2015’s Swooner (Light Organ Records) shows an alternative pop collaboration at the top of their creative game. Swooner marks a major departure from both the cabaret rock of 2009’s Tic Toc Tic and the atmospheric minimalism of Ancient Mars. This time around the band dove headlong into vibrant, experimental pop, stirring modern production into the influences that surrounded them as kids growing up in the ‘90s.
