1. What is the coolest show you have ever played?
It’s really hard to say! We’ve been lucky enough to play countless amazing shows over the years. The first one that comes to my mind was last summer at ‘Pleasant Fest’ in Mount Pleasant. We were playing the main stage and had such a great crowd come out on a beautiful August day! The energy was unreal.
2. How do you keep yourself healthy and happy working in music?
We both have a pretty consistent workout routine and I do a lot of hot yoga! I also don’t check our stats anymore. I used to get pretty obsessive over them and found it’s healthier for me to continue working as hard as I can without the constant need to check for validation. It’s been much better for my mental health! The lifestyle of a musician is full of ups and downs so it is important to be kind to yourself. I fall out of my routines all the time but always manage to come back which I think is the main thing!
3. What is the biggest challenge you’ve experienced in getting to where you are?
I think the biggest challenge is getting over mental blocks. Creating anything means navigating your head through a minefield of doubts about yourself and what you are making. These thoughts have never fully gone away and I don’t expect them to, but I’ve learned to ignore them and create anyway!
4. What is the best part of your life that isn’t music-related?
We are lucky to have an amazing community of friends! We all live in the city and have parties and gatherings quite frequently.
5. What is the best advice you have been given in the music business?
When we were first signed to our label our manager Jonathan told us never to get too high with the highs or low with the lows. Essentially keep yourself as level as possible whether you’re getting good news or bad news. It’s too easy to let yourself get carried away on a high like a dead leaf in the wind just to eventually hit the ground again! You’re never going to get good news all of the time. Forcing yourself to remain neutral no matter what is difficult, but completely necessary if you want any sort of longevity in this career.
