Gil & Wil is a femme-driven country duo based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made up of members Holly Gilroy (she/her) & Aiden McRorie Wilson (she/her). The influence from prairie roots is heavily audible throughout the variety of western, bluegrass, folk, and old-time tunes they play. Follow Gil & Wil on Instagram.
Bringing spice-filled original songs to the stage alongside well-placed classics, the two seamlessly blend their voices to create “harmonies so tight and in-tune that it puts the rest of the world to shame,” (NSMZ, 2024). Gil & Wil have been lucky to collaborate with many first-rate musician friends since their inception in 2022, and have opened for artists including Wolf Willow, Mariel Buckley, Amy Nelson, and The Bellamy Brothers. Noted by many as an up-and-coming group to watch in Saskatchewan, the duo released their first EP, A Siren’s Tale, produced by Rec Hall Studios (Saskatoon, SK) in early 2025.
1. What is the coolest show you have ever played?
We recently played in Eastend, SK – A small town of 600, where my grandparents have lived for 40+ years. My grandma made us her famous baked spaghetti before the show and after things wrapped up, we hit the Golf Clubhouse and hung out with a bunch of people who had last seen me when I was 10 years old, probably eating breakfast with Grandma & Grandpa at the famous Jack’s Cafe. It was the final show of our debut EP mini release-tour, and the small town embraced us in every way, making it feel wholesome as heck. (- Holly)
2. How do you keep yourself healthy and happy working in music?
Taking time to engage with local arts & culture to keep ourselves inspired, engaged, and thinking about different ways to allow for creative growth. Also: celebrating the wins, moving through losses as a team, procuring little treats, and maybe going for a lil walk here and there.
3. What is the biggest challenge you’ve experienced in getting to where you are?
Anxiety & paranoia love to creep their way in it seems. Trying to remember to keep it freaky and fresh helps us shake out the scaries.
4. What is the best part of your life that isn’t music-related?
We’re lucky to be genuine pals inside and outside of our duo, and are often out shootin the shit like a couple of bonafide rascals – think holmes and watson, simon and garfunkel, shrek and donkey, bonnie and clyde, snoopy and woodstock, spongebob and patrick, hall and oates, tom and jerry, thelma and louise.
