What is success for your organization in the coming year?

Key success points for this year are:

  • Support our community of over 2300 members as best we can.
  • Create increased support and resources for caregivers in music
  • Initiate a program focussed on ending Gender Based Violence in the music industry.
What are you currently excited about in the music industry?

I am most fed by the excitement of the WIM Canada community. By the young, talented women and gender diverse creators and industry who are engaging in our programs, who are seeing success, finding their voices, and having life-changing moments. I am moved to tears by the feedback and the joy we see in every event and program. As long as our community continues to face barriers to success, we are excited to help break them down together.

What is the greatest challenge you face currently, and how can other industry and artists partners help?

This may seem odd but I think the greatest challenge is the growing assumption that equity has been reached. It’s becoming common to be told that festivals are more balanced by using examples or of all women festivals. Or a suggestion that gender based violence is a thing of the past because its not currently in the news. There are still barriers to success for underrepresented artists and industry professionals, and we are here to help do the work to fix that.
