SOCAN Song House 2026 at BreakOut West will be hosted by Canadian songwriter, Ryan Guldemond.
Ryan Guldemond is a Vancouver-based musician, songwriter, producer, and multi-medium artist best known as the founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of the internationally acclaimed alt-rock phenomenon Mother Mother. Since forming the band in 2005, Guldemond has helped shape the band’s distinctive sound and a catalog that has earned billions of global streams, multiple chart-topping releases, millions of followers across social platforms and a devoted international fan base. For more than two decades, Mother Mother has evolved artistically, with the group’s intelligent, melodic songcraft and celebrated live performances establishing them as one of Canada’s most influential indie rock acts. Their ambitious career has produced 10 studio albums, four live albums, 35 singles and videos and a pair of EPs, plus triumphant live appearances on The Late Late Show with James Corden and Rolling Stone.
Twelve songwriters will be selected to participate in this 2-day interactive songwriting workshop. Participants from Western Canada will be selected to participate based on their songwriting skill and will gain valuable insight into the craft of writing a hit song. This initiative aligns with SOCAN’s Creative strategy to help members with craft development opportunities to reach new heights in their careers. There will be an optional group dinner for available participants on September 30th.
Songwriter participants must meet the following criteria:
• Must be SOCAN member
• Must be a WCMA member, or, a member of one of the six Western Canadian Music Industry Associations (Alberta Music, SaskMusic, Manitoba Music, Music BC, Music Yukon, Music NWT)
• Must be attending BreakOut West, and be available to participate October 1-2
• Willing to take their writing craft to the next level
