What is success for your organization in the coming year?

Success for us is the artists we work with building towards sustainable careers in the music industry.

What are you currently excited about in the music industry?

Exploring web3 has been a source of great optimism for me lately. There are a lot of hurdles to overcome before mainstream adoption is realistic, but there is opportunity for musicians to find small yet meaningful groups of true supporters as well as the potential to shift the artist-fan dynamic in a way that can benefit everyone.

What is the greatest challenge you face currently, and how can other industry and artists partners help?

Breaking through the social media algorithm and communicating directly with listeners is currently the biggest challenge imo. There is an unhealthy obsession with virality in the music industry which unfortunately rewards trend-following content above more sustainable communication styles. I think music industry gatekeepers could be doing a better job trying to change the narrative for emerging artists about what is required in order to build a career. I've heard way too much "if you can't go viral on tiktok you'll never make it" and not enough "make great art and nurture your earliest supporters, build your community one person at a time".

Can you give a shout out to an artist or industry member who is also doing great things?

Dreams Never Die is a record label DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) formed in partnership with Chad Hillard, Cole Ryan and Ben Frigeri based in Vancouver, LA and New York, respectively. They are currently navigating the web3 music space at an expert level and are doing incredible things for the artists they work with in terms of setting them up for longterm success.
