Submissions are now open for the SOCAN Song House at BreakOut West 2016, scheduled for October 12 and 13, 2016, in Regina SK.
Submissions close Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
Ralph Murphy (renowned songwriter, producer, and author of Murphy’s Law of Songwriting) will lead the two-day interactive workshop. Twelve songwriter participants from Western Canada will be selected to participate, gaining valuable insight into the craft of writing a hit song. This initiative aligns with SOCAN’s new A&R strategy to help members improve their songwriting and reach new heights in their careers.
The 2015 East Coast Music Week hosted the first-ever SOCAN Song House to great success.
“SOCAN Song House is going to be an exercise in creativity and collaboration, says Chief Membership and Business Development Officer, Michael McCarty. “Ralph Murphy is one of the experts in the development of the craft of songwriting and we are proud to foster and encourage this development for our songwriter members.”
Songwriter participants must meet the following criteria:
- The workshop will be best-suited to songwriters in pop and country genres
- Must be SOCAN member
- Must be a WCMA member, or, a member of one of the six Western Canadian Music Industry Associations (Alberta Music, SaskMusic, Manitoba Music, Music BC, Music Yukon, Music NWT)
- Must be attending BreakOut West, and be available to participate October 12 - 13
- Willing to take their writing craft to the next level

- Rationale for how Song House fits your development plan
