Third Round of Conference Speakers Announced for BreakOut West 2017

The director of a multi-service music company in Australia, an agent who represents some of the biggest touring acts in music, the national publicity manager of a Canadian publicity company, a music journalist based in Germany, a UK-based music licensing creative, and the Editor-in-Chief of a magazine for professional and amateur musicians and music industry professionals, are the third round of speakers for BOW 2017.

Geoff Trio has been at the helm of Code One for over a decade. After studying filmmaking and playing in bands in his youth, Geoff started his 25-year career in the music industry as booking agent. Taking the DIY approach, Geoff is responsible for starting some of Sydney’s most iconic venues including Cronulla’s The Brass Monkey and Newtown’s The Vanguard and serving as creative director for numerous festivals such as, Australian Music Week, Peats Ridge, Cronulla Jazz & Shiraz, Sydney Blues & Roots and Sounds of The Suburbs.

Geoff has been a strong advocate for the Australian music industry. He has participated in numerous national and international events, including speaking as a panelist at Australia’s Fuse and Big Sound and at international conferences in the USA and Canada, including Canadian Music Week in Toronto. Geoff’s other ventures include: A touring agency for international and domestic artists like Riblja Čorba (Serbia) and Gregory Page (USA) and a plethora Canadian acts including The Trews, Serena Ryder, Hawksley Workman, Jill Barber and Jeff Martin of The Tea Party. A management company – Big Daddy Wilson and Folk Uke (Cathy Guthrie and Amy Nelson); A label & consultancy agency – overseeing booking at 5 venues and organizing several key festivals Including Sounds of The Suburbs; and Managing Director of the full-service company Indica Australia, a division of the Canadian label Indica, representing Montreal’s Half Moon Run and Australian artists Hein Cooper and Moving Stills. Geoff is also proprietor of The Brass Monkey and Cronulla’s famous Mexican restaurant/bar, El Sol.

Jack Ross has devoted his professional life to being an artist advocate and leads the United Talent Agency team in Canada. UTA represents some of the biggest touring attractions in music including Guns & Roses, Muse, Toby Keith, Mariah Carey and many more. Jack personally works with Canadian superstars, Paul Brandt, Sam Roberts Band, Bruce Cockburn and oversees an office of twenty plus people in Toronto. Jared Falk is the National Publicity Manager for Killbeat Music, a Canadian music publicity company that has worked to gain national attention for more than 400 album releases. You're likely to find a Killbeat artist featured in magazines and newspapers across the country, charting on the R220, R330, and !earshot, nominated for a JUNO Award, or on the short list of the Polaris Music Prize. Falk has a background in Advertising and has previously worked as a Music Photographer and Radio Producer.

Nadine Wenzlick has been working as a music journalist since 2003. After several years at Germany's biggest music company, she became freelance in 2007. Her clients include music magazines such as Visions and Classic Rock, Germany's second biggest news outlet N-TV, as well as several daily newspapers. She has seen more than 2000 concerts and interviewed around 600 artists.

London-based, Phylicia Chong, is a Music Licensing Creative for Secret Road Music Services, handling projects in the UK and across Europe. Phylicia works with music supervisors, directors, producers, trailer houses, and advertising agencies to find the perfect piece of music to help realize their creative vision.

Secret Road is a music licensing, publishing, label and management company headquartered in Los Angeles, that has placed songs across a wide range of brand campaigns including Lexus, Coca-Cola, Special K, Google and Adidas. Additionally, Secret Road artists have been featured in highly-rated television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Girls, Pretty Little Liars and Masters of None.

Andrew King is the Editor-in-Chief of Canadian Musician, Canada’s magazine for professional and amateur musicians and music industry professionals, and also co-hosts the popular Canadian Musician Radio podcast. Andrew has been a speaker, panelist, and moderator at major music industry events including CMW, ECMA, the Halifax Pop Explosion, and many others. He’s also a three-time nominee for Music Journalist of the Year at Canadian Music Week’s Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards.
