Second Round of Conference Speakers Announced for BreakOut West 2017

The director of a festival management company in the UK, a publicist for aggressive music, the owner of a German label and agency, the founder of an L.A.-based music supervision company, an entrepreneur and an innovator who embraces the future of today’s music business, and a publicist specializing in national campaigns for Canadian artists and entrepreneurs, are the second round of speakers for BOW 2017.

Bev Burton is the Director of Killer B Music, which has been booking and event managing festivals, events, venues and parties for over 9 years., Her portfolio has included: Hop Farm Music Festival, FIB Benicassim, The Mighty Boosh Festival, Costa de Fuego, Wood Festival, The Cambridge Folk Festival, Desertfest, Wheels and Fins, Black Deer, Zoo Project UK, The Brick Lane Takeover, The Magic Loungeabout, Synergy Live, Parklife (South Africa), Roko Nakyts, Bliuzo Naktys and Galapagai (Lithuania). Killer B also books and does event management for large-scale shows: the last 2 shows were Kings of Leon at Newcastle Football Club and Sarah Brightman and the Chinese Philharmonic Orchestra, in Beijing, China. 

Cara Ashbey is an aggressive music publicist for Asher Media Relations. For the past 10 years, AMR and staff follow one rule and one rule only, that is getting artists the media attention that they deserve. By developing publicity campaigns for image awareness and media support, AMR showcases and represents talented artists to all media outlets ranging from print, radio, online and television across Canada, USA and Europe. Understanding the struggles and hard work it takes as an artist, AMR and staff are by your side, making sure that your work is being seen and heard for its achievements using various media tools.

Jörg Tresp established DevilDuck Records in 2004 and is currently working with bands from US, Canada, Scandinavia and of course Germany, and focusing on authentic and timeless artists/bands who have a so called “indie attitude”. In addition to the label, there is also DevilDuck Booking. Jörg is also experienced in label management (Sub Pop for a couple of years, a Canadian label Nevado Music and now for the Danish label Celebration Records) and teaching “music business”. After studying business & social economics Jörg worked for different record companies such as Edel Records and Warner Music as Marketing Manager. Jörg’s latest project is DanCan, a label service in cooperation with Rough Trade Distribution, concentrating on Canadian and Scandinavian artists.

Los Angeles native Laura Katz is the founder of L.A.-based music supervision company SUPE TROOP, which specializes in music supervision services for all types of media. Prior to launching SUPE TROOP, Katz led Cutting Edge Group’s L.A. office’s music supervision services for feature films, TV shows, video games, and other visual media projects. She oversaw music department services such as bespoke composition, production, clearance, licensing, soundtrack album releases, and more. She personally music supervises around ten projects per year. Katz’s notable film credits include Their Finest (music supervision), That Awkward Moment (music supervision), Stuck in Love (music supervision), and Tallulah (music supervision). She also worked on Insomniac Games' Xbox One game, Sunset Overdrive. Additionally, Katz works with directors and producers to create opportunities for original songs in films - the original end title song, "It's No Mistake," from The Right Kind of Wrong, won the Meilleure Chanson Originale (Achievement in Music - Original Song) award at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards.

An entrepreneur and an innovator, Ron Kitchener embraces the future of the music business. Launched in 1992, Kitchener established RGK Entertainment Group and umbrellas his other initiatives such as: Open Road Recordings; publishing companies Roots Three Music and Rogue ElevenDART events, a touring events planning company; TopCountry.ca; and RGK One Shot Productions, a television development company. In 2008, 2009 and 2011, Kitchener was named CCMA Record Company Person of the Year and honored for an unprecedented 13 consecutive years as Manager of the Year at the CCMAs (2002-2014 ).

The Open Road/RGK roster includes: Dean Brody, Tim Hicks, Madeline Merlo, Doc Walker, The Road Hammers, Corb Lund, River Town Saints, Jessica Mitchell, Hunter Brothers, Blackjack Billy, Sons of Daughters, and has been behind the successful Canadian launch of acts such as Taylor Swift and Johnny Reid. Susan Busse is an independent publicist in Saskatoon, SK. Susan Busse PR creates local and national campaigns with Canadian artists and entrepreneurs. She has a business background in marketing and sales and a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance) from the University of Saskatchewan. She strategizes and executes publicity campaigns and offers publicity consulting to music clients such as Rosie & the Riveters, 100 mile house, Alexis Normand, Ariane Mahryke-Lemire, Belle Plaine, Blake Berglund, Crestwood, Carrie Catherine, League of Wolves, Village Guitar & Amp, the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, and more. She also enjoys work in the fields of fashion, books, dance, visual art, film, and business.

Susan recently served a six year term as Treasurer of the Board for SaskMusic and she continues to serve as a juror for CARAS, FACTOR, WCMA, CCMA and Creative Saskatchewan.
